CAFF Biennial 2013

We are now busy preparing for the upcoming CAFF Biennial scheduled for February 11-14, 2013.  For thos participants that have confirmed, you should have received log in information to access more details and documents on the meeting. Visa process

Accomodation and travel

 

The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic Government authorities in Yakutsk are in the process of negotiating group discounts for both accomodation and travel costs and further information on these will be circulated shortly.

 

There are daily flights between Moscow and Yakutsk by S7 airlines, Transaero, and Yakutia. Flight costs approximately 450 Euros.

 

 

Schedule

 

  • Monday February 11 –biennial starts after lunch
  • Tuesday February 12 – full day biennial
  • Wednesday February 13 – before lunch biennial meetings, after lunch excursion
  • Thursday February 14 – biennial finishes at lunchtime, return to Moscow
  • Friday February 15 (early) morning – transfer to the airport

 

Information on Yakutia

 

The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is situated in the northeastern part of the Eurasian continent. The total area of the continental and island (consisting of Lyakhov, Anzhu, and DeLonga islands belonging to the Novosibirsk Islands of the Arctic Ocean) territory of Yakutia is just over 3 million  km2. More than two-fifths of the republic is above the Arctic Circle. Yakutia stretches 2500 km from north to south and 2000 km from east to west. Yakutia is 8468 km from Moscow and 1590 km from Khabarovsk. It is spread over three time zones with differences of +6, +7 and +8 hours from Moscow time. Yakutia has a severe continental climate, with long winters and very short summers. The temperature span between the coldest month (January) and the warmest month (July) is 70-75°C. The republic is unique in terms of the absolute minimum temperatures in its depressions with periods of extreme low temperatures ranging between six and a half to nine months a year. The republic's capital is Yakutsk was founded in 1632 by Russian explorers in the central Lena River Basin.
